Tastata - Studies and documents

€60.00 (In Stock)

With Enharmonic instruments and music 1470-1900 Patrizio Barbieri presents the first complete treatise on instruments equipped with more than the usual twelve keys per octave, traditionally called 'enharmonic': a fascinating but still obscure subject, which since the Renaissance has been investigated by practical and theoretical musicians, musical instrument makers, acoustic physicists, mathematicians, philosophers. Performance issues concerning the intonation of violins, wind instruments, and singers are also examined. The attached audio CD – containing most of the rare compositions written for such musical systems, synthesized with digital programs – will also provide the reader with concrete sound examples of the micro-intervals of which a written text can only offer the arithmetic ratios.

Attached audio CD.
